Did You Know?
Basset Hounds have VERY good sniffers! The only dog with one better is the Bloodhound
They’re very very heavy! Often 60-70 pounds! That’s some heavy bones and muscle for a dog so low to the ground
Marilyn Monroe had a Basset Hound named Hugo
The food “hush puppies” are fried corn balls. They’re named that, because farmers and hunters used to throw fried corn balls for them to catch and quiet down when they were barking and howling!
Basset Hounds’ ears brush the ground, and it wafts the scent up into their nose
Their “dewlap” is what we call the folds of skin under a Basset’s chin, and that keeps the scent they’re tracking from escaping them!
Bassets don’t swim very well - they’re much too heavy, and their legs are so short. They need life jackets when they’re hanging out by the water
The tip of a Basset Hound’s tail is white, so you can find him in the long grass or weeds
Basset Hounds are really easy to train, but they need a DELICIOUS reward to stay focused and interested
Basset Hounds on TV:
Secret Life of Pets features a Basset named Pops!
Stella on Disney’s Princess and the Frog is a Basset

Tips, Tricks and Treats: Let Them Sniff!
Bassets may be expert trackers, but ALL dogs love to sniff! Being able to sniff on their walks means your dog can read a comic book, scroll social media, watch a few YouTube videos, and text a few friends! Okay, not really ACTUALLY all of those things, but they can catch up on all the tea in the neighborhood (and basically accomplish the same thing.) Sniffing makes the walk way more enjoyable for them, and it gives them a lot more exercise than just walking or running!
