Long Lasting Chews

Himalayan dog chews (held by a Jughead to last longer!) and beef cheek rolls can provide your dog with hours of entertainment!

Did you know that just chewing on something is enriching for your dog? And the longer lasting it is, the more enriching it is. Of course, every dog is different and each of them will take longer, or less time, than others with whatever you may give them. That said, I have discovered a few chews that tend to stand the test of time with most. Two of these are the Himalayan chews and Beef Cheeks. Both of these types of chews are all natural and safe for dogs! Himalayan dog chews are made of just yak and cow milk, salt, and lime juice. Beef cheek rolls are a much safer alternative to rawhide with all natural ingredients, and longer lasting!

I have given my mastiff, Dira, a beef cheek roll that has taken her over three weeks to even begin breaking down. And Dira is an aggressive chewer. Granted, I only let her chew on it for about a half hour at a time, but that’s still a long time for a dog who makes short work of everything I hand her. (This dog once dismantled a frozen peanut butter filled Kong so completely that it disappeared until we found chips of it in the back yard a couple of days later, if you know what I mean.) Another dog I know who is on bed rest took only an hour and a half - while chewing straight through - to finish one off.

The Himalayan chews are incredibly popular as well, and take some dogs quite a while to finish. Couple them with a Jughead for even longer enrichment sessions! One thing I love about these chews is that when they get chewed down to the point that they are too small for your dog to work, you can turn them into crispy puffs by soaking a few minutes and microwaving.

You can find both of these and all sorts of other enrichment chews and toys at Muzzles Up’s favorite little pet supply store, Earthwise Pet Marysville. If you choose to go in rather than ordering online, you might even run in to me while you’re there!
