Did You Know?

  • The man who developed the Doberman breed was a tax collector AND he ran a dog pound!

  • Their tails and ears no longer need docked or cropped - they were originally considered weak points for their job

  • Dobermans can run up to 32mph!

  • They are considered the 5th smartest dog breed in the world!

  • Doberman Pinschers were once used by the military as sentries and messengers

  • Dobermans are the only dog breed named after a specific person - their breed creator, Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann

  • The word “Pinscher” means “terrier” in German

  • Dobermans are bred to guard the home or property, but they also work as service, therapy, and guide dogs, search and rescue, military and police dogs. They LOVE to be snuggly family dogs as well

Myth Busters:

  • Doberman Pinschers’ brains do NOT outgrow their skulls. There is no medical proof to the myth that they do

  • They do not turn on their owners as they age

  • Dobermans are NOT difficult to train! In fact, they respond very well to positive reinforcement!

  • They are NOT aggressive in nature. These are very loving dogs who need socialization, the same as any breed!

Dobermans are as sweet and loyal as any other breed. They can develop diseases that affect their brain, but other breeds can develop those too!
