Calla's Corner: Corgis - The Shorties with a Big Punch!

Did You Know?

  • Queen Elizabeth owned more than 30 Pembroke corgis!

  • Corgis nipped at the heels of bigger animals on the farm, to herd them

  • According to folklore, Corgis were used by the fairy folk to pull their coaches - some even rode them! See the saddle and the white band around their shoulders? That’s where the reigns went…

  • There are two types of Welsh Corgis - Pembroke (no tail, often born that way,) and Cardigan (long, fluffy tail.)

  • There are several beaches around the country that hold “Corgi Beach Day,” where you can find literally HUNDREDS of Corgis running around!

  • Some believe the Cardigan Welsh Corgi made the move from mainland Europe to Wales on Celtic boats in 1200 BC!

  • While the Cardigan has a history thousands of years long, the Pembroke is a little younger; they’ve been around since closer to 1100 AD

Cute and sweet - but CAUTION!

Corgis are so fun and adorable, and they can be amazing family pets! But you should always understand a breed and their personality before bringing one home. Corgis often resource guard things that are special to them (including their humans!) They also have a LOT of energy and they’re very very smart. This means they need lots of physical AND mental exercise every single day! IYou can make
